As I looked out the window while my dear husband kept sleeping I saw the Chilean flag flying proudly beside the Chinese flag.
After breakfast we went down to the lobby and enjoyed the hustle and bustle of Chilean politicians I guess you'd say. We talked with them and one even invited us to visit his home in Chile. I hope we can take him up on that offer someday.
The previous day Jake had told the Chilean president in passing as he handed her flowers that his wife would be in town the next day and he'd love for me to meet her. Well, as she approached us headed to her motorcade that awaited her she stopped and she and I did the standard Chilean greeting of "kissing" each other on each cheek. She then shook Jake's hand and was on her way. It felt wonderful to meet her. I love Chile and the people there. I hope someday that our life will bring us to live there. It doesn't feel as though it will happen anytime soon, but I will continue to dream.
(Verónica Michelle Bachelet Jeria AC is a Socialist Party politician and the President of Chile since 11 March 2014. She previously served as President from 2006–2010, becoming the first woman in her country to do so.)
While Jake was at work I decided to enjoy the beautiful blue skies that APEC (Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation) had brought to town. The Chinese government has enough control over their country that in times of a big conference like this they can shut down factories and limit driving to bring on blue skies instead of smog filled ones.
I then went to the salon for a little pick me up. The hotels never have conditioner and shampoo/style services in China are relatively inexpensive and open late. My hair was good for almost a week after this so that is a win in my book!
Day one in Beijing was a success! We ended up finishing off the night at a nearby pizza place with people from Jake's work.
Just. Wow. So cool.
