This Memorial Day my thoughts are turned to the real reason behind this weekend. Memorial Day commemorates U.S. soldiers who died while in the military service. I have always been grateful for the sacrifice of our service members but I believe now more than ever before I am realizing the magnitude of their sacrifice, service and that of their family members.  I have recently starting reading a few fellow military spouse blogs.  Tonight while reading here , I saw the video below and at 1:12 I see it,  Jake's family friend and neighbor,  someone I know and consider my friend, kneeling there beside his brother's casket in Arlington.   We were even stationed at FT. Huachuca, AZ and Jake stayed in "Prosser Village" named after this friend but it never clicked til now.   At one minute, twelve seconds,  it all sunk in.   The magnitude of it all. As I continued to watch I remembered that I went to school with a girl in Smithville, TX wh...

Saying Good-bye

It hit me yesterday when Luke, who stayed with us the night before, was sitting in his U-Haul  ready to drive away and Jake began saying his good-byes to him.   It hit me that we are all going our separate ways.   I knew it was coming ,  I knew it would eventually happen,  but I don't think the gravity of it all hit me til now.   All us Shilligs are moving away, leaving only the 2s up north. I love how uniting Provo/BYU can be. Here's to more family get-togethers, wherever they may be...

After Beau's baptism,

we went to OLIVE GARDEN   (Beau's choice). We used 6 high chairs so that helped keep the little ones contained so we could enjoy our meal. Malachi had a nice conversation with Mia on the way home.   There were lots of Wuuu and Buuu sounding words said in a deep back of the throat kind of voice by little Malachi.

Beau's Baptism

Beau was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is 16 years old. He is a great example to his family and friends. Beau we are so proud of you.  The girls were so excited.    When we told Aimi Lark that morning that Uncle Beau was being baptized she said, "Yeah, because he's 8."   In our church those 8 years old and older can choose to be baptized. Jake performed the ordinance   with Nate (Jake's brother)  and Seth (Jake's brother in law) serving as witnesses of the baptism. We felt so much love and support from all those in attendance. My relief society president Sis. Miner and her husband, our family friend Aunt Carol,  Jake's cousins the Turners,  our neighbors the Ostlers   and Moores, and two families Beau helps home teach, the Dahls   and Susan Willey. Jake's family friends the Heaths were also able to make it to the baptism.  It was so wonderful to see them. We also ...

Jake's SURPRISE "family day"

I am excited to tell y'all that Jake's family day was a total and complete success! We left around 9AM and drove south.  He brought the guns and our broken TV so I figured we were headed to Payson to shoot.  As we passed Payson and kept driving I was a bit perplexed but didn't ask questions.  Well after about an hour on the road I made a comment and he responded with the fact that we would be on the road for another HOUR at least!  WHAT!?  is what I was thinking in my head.  We finally reach our destination, Meadow, Utah .  We have lunch at a Conoco gas station.  We ate the classy, greasy stuff.  You know the stuff under heat lamps?  YUMMY I know.  Jake said every once in awhile he loved him some "truck stop food."  He loves these big egg rolls from his time when he worked at the Flying J in his hometown of Frazier Park, CA.  OK, so, we get our lunch and head about a mile up the road to a nice house, get out and wait....
