Caroline, the subway, & Little India (Singapore)

Jake had a long day of presentations ahead of him so I decided to do some sight-seeing myself.  I love mass transit in other countries.  It is cheap and usually relatively easy.  In Singapore it was BOTH.  I walked for about ten minutes to the nearest station and hoped on the Subway to "Little India" and found it so colorful and clean!  It was not what I expected because when I picture India I picture it a bit dirty.  Eating food each night in the lounge with my dear husband is my favorite.  We get to talk, and I eat way too many spring rolls.

Arrival in Singapore

We were welcomed to the beautiful "Caroline" suite and were so happy!  He obviously got right to work, but I was taking it all in. Because you know every elevator needs a seat and all mirrors over your tub need a TV.   The St Regis in Singapore was incredible!

Getting to Guangzhou

We grabbed some noodles from the lounge and boarded.  He didn't wait for water before crunching away!  Thankfully the flight attendant gave us hot water.  Those little forks come in your bowl all folded up.  It's practically genius.  He can watch movies non-stop when we fly.  I am not as dedicated.  I like to take a good nap when I can.  As we approached Guangzhou it felt very leery to me in an abandoned way.  Waste is something that really bothers me and to see all these communities abandoned for what I assume is the new mega high rise communities in China it broke my heart.  Even as we were unloading the plane he had to finish as much of his movie as he could.  That smile on his face and the loud laughs he had made me laugh too.  To me high rises and cranes are what represents China right now.  They are building so much and it seems like too much.  I love when you see something tha...

Beijing

After our LONG trek I showered and decided to NAP and he was off to WORK.  When we traveled to Chile I discovered I loved ceviche.  Jake took me to the best ceviche I've had since then at a Peruvian restuarant by our hotel.  It doubled as a business meeting.  The next day we attended the Beijing ward for church and it is always a delight to attend church around the world.  More business meetings, but this time with a friend.  He is a convert to our church and has an amazing story of his sister leaving China for school and then bringing home her knowledge of Jesus Christ to her family.  He served a mission for our church in the USA.  More soaking in the tub for me and each time I passed this room I thought of my grandma sellers who was born in 1919.  She loved to make crafts and I loved spending weekends with her at her flea market booth.

Rerouted to Tianjin

We enjoyed the relaxation in the first class lounge of the airport.  Someday maybe we can fly first class too.  Due to bad weather (we were told after sitting on the plane forever) we were rerouted and grounded in Tianjin.  After much debate we convinced them to let us off the plane and that we would take a train the short distance to Beijing.  We ended up in a gorgeous hotel inside an old European building.  We spent the night there before taking an early morning train to Beijing.  This hotel was my favorite and I'd love to spend more time in Tianjin.  The combination of European and Asian in the city intrigued me.  There was a TV in our bathroom mirror.  It appeared out of no where, I had to take a picture.  He had to get right to work, but I soaked in our room while I could.  This would be my dream bedroom I think.  I am a sucker for Victorian and 60s/70s decor.  They are quite d...
