He had work so I decided to take a taxi to the local museum. I was taken aback at just how HUGE it was. I walked around and discovered it was closed on Mondays. I took pictures with some of the locals who asked for their kids. I then started walking back to the hotel. I thought for sure I could find it.
Traffic in Asia isn't just 4 ways, it seems to go ALL ways.
This street was intriguing to me, but I just kept walking down the main road. I ended up hailing a cab to take me the rest of the way. It wasn't much cheaper than the cab to the museum so I should have just taken a cab from the beginning, but I loved the views and the few shops I stopped in.
I then crashed into a JET-LAG nap. They are INTENSE. Your body feels like it is being woke up at 2am in America. I wanted to rest on this trip, but if I did I slept too hard for too long it felt like.
We were lucky enough to eat all our meals in the "concierge lounge" at our hotels. I ate way way way too many spring rolls. I could not for the life of me figure out how to boil water in this tea pot thing that is in every room of our hotels in China.
We took a semi-long drive to the outskirts of town to visit Wanbu Huayanjin Pagoda
I found it to be so beautiful as it was not near anything.
When I entered a father and his daughter were entering. He paid my entrance fee and took our picture. He then walked around with me and the joy in his eyes as his daughter spoke to me in English. He videoed us the entire time. With my broken Chinese and her very good English we enjoyed our time together. He invited me to lunch and offered to drive me, I had a taxi waiting and kindly declined. We added each other on We Chat (chinese messaging service) but somehow it didn't connect.
Sights on my way back to the hotel.
Hohhot did not have Uber (the car service) so we were back to hailing cabs.
More on Hohhot to come...
