Zelda

OK so we got a dog.
(I think I've avoided blogging about her because I wasn't sure just how permanent this situation was and in my head blogging it made it "official")
Well actually to be more exact, a dog found us.  She was a stray in our neighborhood which is odd in and of itself because here in "the city" strays seem to be non-existent and our neighbors are the first to call animal control.  Like the time there was that cat at our back door.  It ended up scratching Aimi Lark, our neighbor told animal control about it who sent MANY officers over to our house to INVESTIGATE the situation.  Seriously?  This is a far cry from how I grew up, strays always here there and everywhere.  They ended up capturing the cat and quarantining it and letting us know via a letter that Aimi Lark would not have to be treated for rabies like they had originally told us she would have to if they cat was never apprehended.

OK so back to Zelda, that's her name, it was my suggestion.  Jake said his Dad said pits (yes she's a pit bull) respond well to the "Z" sound.  I'll admit, the thought of a PIT BULL freaked me out.  Aren't those dogs bred and raised and encoded to be killers/fighters?  My other thought was, INSIDE?  our back yard isn't completely fenced in.  Jake and Beau assured me pit bulls are what you make them out to be.  I opened up a little and from day one she has been a saint with the kids.  She does get excited and sometimes knock them over but nothing they do seems to phase her.  Taking her to the vet helped me feel better as well.  He talked about reading her demeanor and such.
I will admit she's a bit of a "Marley and Me" type dog.  You know the one where sometimes the dog seems to be more trouble than it's worth but you love it anyway?  We're there, it's odd to say but we're there.  She's chewed some stuff, was in heat, and had some accidents all in the last month (she arrived here March 1st) but we love her.  She's our Whiskey Tango alarm system and we're keeping her so don't judge.

EVERYONE attacked Jake just as he walked in the door from school, even Zelda, she loves him.  They go on LONG runs daily.  She is only about a year old so she has lots of energy to expel.  Jake says he LOVES running with her.
Sometimes the kids use her as a pillow, literally.
She gets excited when the kids wake up and Malachi yelling "DEL-DA!" is adorable.
She is not allowed on the furniture, we stopped that dead in its tracks.
OK so that's our dog, I blogged about it so it's real, written in our life story.
Next order of business is to get her fixed!
Oh and one last thing.  Tonight after Jake got back from class he and the kids (who were still up) went with me to PUBLIX (grocery store) and bought 18 bags of dog food for just under $9 so that was $0.50/bag.  We saved right around $90.  Jake said as we loaded up the car that he felt like he was STEALING from the store.  I assured him I was just using their sales prices and coupons to get the best deal.  PLUS they make the value of the coupon + $0.08/coupon I give them from the manufacturer.  So it's a win/win.
OK that'll do.  Plenty more pictures to come of her I'm sure.

  5. Ya dogs are the best pets! Even though they can cause trouble they are soooo worth it! Dogs always love you and are a great comfort in life. They help reduce stress levels. The experts say that it is very good for children to grow up with dogs because they learn how to be kind to animals and they are great stress reducers. I love the name Zelda and pit bulls are beautiful dogs exsecially yours! Have fun!

20 Weeks

Today we had the opportunity to go in for our 20 week ultrasound. We are excited to announce that baby #3 is a healthy BOY! We are excited but have to admit we are a bit nervous. Change is hard and after two girls this is definitely a change. It will be a fun and wonderful experience. I have already thought about little boy ACUs and PT clothes (little army clothes) and what I will decorate the "boy" room in etc. I have always heard boys are "easier" but more rambunctious so I guess we will just have to see. I was excited that during the ultrasound our little boy was crossing his legs at the ankle like both his sisters do! So funny! We will keep y'all posted on names and other developments.

Halloween 2023

We pulled off our best Halloween!  Possibly ever!  Jake had a vision and it came true beautifully.  He even had the cutest song he sang.  I loved our last Halloween in our Hurst home.

sometimes life may get you down

but then you remember how wonderful you husband is and it makes it all ok. Jake surprised me by ordering these gorgeous handmade pearl earrings from TINY STORM for me for Christmas and they were waiting for us with all our mail when we arrived back home after vacation. He got down on one knee and presented me with these earrings and it brought tears to my eyes. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful, hardworking, and loving husband who is always there to take care of me and love me when I am having a rough time. Thank you Jacob!
