(that we had for her here at my house)
I've never hosted anything of the sort (baby shower, bridal shower, etc) but I followed my Mama's teachings and made sure there was lots of good food. I always figure if there is good food and people leave with a good story or two it was a successful event. I overcame my fear of melting chocolate and made chocolate covered pretzels. About 6 months ago I tried melting chocolate and after about 20 cups of scorched chocolate I was done. I didn't think you HAD to melt it on LOW... So last night I tried my hand at melting chocolate chips and dipping the pretzels. It was an awesome feeling of accomplishment.
I also don't sew for the same reason...I'm not enough of a perfectionist to sew a perfectly straight line, melt chocolate on low, I like to work FAST FAST FAST (and efficient). Sewing and melting chocolate on low require my undivided attention, I prefer being able to multi-task, and that is why I love my crock-pot.
Jake and Josh came up with some questions that I wrote up
for Kayla and she had to chew a piece of gum for every question she got wrong. She ended up with a pretty big wad of gum in her mouth but I thought she did GREAT! She got the MO state theme (show me state) for crying out loud. Go Kayla!
I love love love fudge. I have never tried my hand at it (que melting chocolate) but found a recipe in a food storage cook book I got for Christmas that
1. had me use my powdered milk, and
2. had very few ingredients.
I decided to take that fudge one step further and make it "rocky road" fudge.
It was DELISH if I do say so myself.
We had quite the spread of food and plenty of good company. My type of party!
Baby William enjoyed food of another variety.
Kayla got tons of great presents. We of course got her our traditional "food storage starter kit" that the church sells. LOVE IT!
We had to take a crazy faced picture just for Kayla :)
Kayla is practically a Shillig.
We love her!
Josh showed up and had some fun with Malachi after all the festivities winded down. Malachi is Josh's mini-best man for the wedding on May 1.
Speaking of I bought my ticket!
Malachi and I will be in TX from April 28-May 4!

hahah you go to Texas the day we come back to Utah!
ReplyDeleteBy the way- the trick to melting chocolate (Which I do an awful lot of for my desserts) is to add a teaspoon of cooking oil for every cup of chocolate, nuke it a minute, stir it up real good, then nuke it another 30 seconds- to a minute. Just dont put it on for 2 minutes! I have found the microwave is the absolute best way to melt chocolate too, and not more than 2 cups at a time :)
Have fun in Texas :)
HAHA. I looked long and hard at that and thought, "Briday? Is that some new term I don't know about?"
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome Caroling, what a party!
Your chocolate looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry I missed out on the fun. Everything looks great.
