What started out as a post about ballet...

Today I scheduled Aimi Lark to take a free ballet class tomorrow thanks to her Aunt Larkie giving us a coupon from Jordan's tea party. After I got off the phone I told Aimi Lark she was going to go to ballet tomorrow and she SHRIEKED like the cutest little girl and then jabbered on (and on) and all I understood was her saying something about a TUTU. I then asked her if she knew what you did at ballet class and she then jabbered some more and I once again only understood "tutu." Well at least she knows that ballet and tutus go together. We are so excited to take her.

Tonight I told Aimi Lark to give Kayla a hug because she is sick. Aimi Lark then walked over and asked Jake if he was sick when he said, "no" she said "I'm sick, I need a hug."

Mali Su is such a clumsy and uncoordinated little girl. She cracks us up with her mood changes and funny personality. Tonight she was running around while we watched LOST just being funny as ever. She would fake laugh, tell us how PRETTY her shirt was, and then at one point she came over to me, held up her hand, and said "Hush Mama." Not in a sassy way but a really cute way.

Tonight I made chocolate chip cookies AND brownies. I didn't make dinner, it was a "left-over" kind of night so I figured I needed to make it up to everyone somehow. For some reason when I don't make dinner or I make a less than exciting meal I always feel that if I make dessert everyone will be happy because it will be the last thing they remember eating. At first I just made cookies but then Jake let on that he wanted brownies so since it is BIRTHDAY week I made those too. We had a full house tonight so there were no left over cookies, they were all gone as soon as they hit the cooling rack. Even Malachi had a cookie and then washed it down with a saltine and a bottle of water.Tonight Jake figured out how to hook our laptop up to the big TV in the living room. It was fun to watch the LOST episode we missed last week FULL screen instead of on the laptop screen. I can already tell Jake will have fun with his laptop hooked up to the TV.

I did a ton of paperwork stuff today. I spread it all out on the bar and got to work. I paid bills, filled out some tax paperwork (we filed a scholarship wrong in 2008 and owed them money...not fun), and while going through papers found a note to myself about a visiting teaching interview at 11:50AM on Tuesday, March 9. I found that paper at EXACTLY 11:50AM today (Tuesday March 9). I jumped in the car and drove to my Relief Society president's house (arriving at 11:51AM). When I got back I told Jake there is something to be said about living 30 seconds from everyone in your ward's house...only in Utah.

I am more than eager to hear back from the law schools Jake applied to. I keep thinking of possibilities of if he gets accepted to none, what will we do? or if he gets accepted to ALL of them, what will we do? So many variables and so many unknowns. I have to admit it is kind of fun (for me) to anticipate change and the unknown.

Raising teenagers and little ones (at the same time) is a lot of work. It seems with little ones you (I) just want to stay home because getting in and out of car seats with diaper bags and such is a lot of work. BUT with the older ones they have schedules full of school, homework, sports, church activities, and so much more that require your undivided attention. I do have to admit having "helpers" with the "big kids" is such an advantage.

I just uploaded pictures and found this cute one Jake must have taken of Malachi playing video games with him. Man, he is a cutie! and yes he DOES live in his pajamas.I love how involved Jake is with our children. Quite sometime ago we were leaving church and Jake was carrying Malachi and gathered up both girls and walked out the door, all the while saying to me that he would load up all the kids. A lady sitting in the foyer (who was probably around the age of 60) said in a bit of a smug voice, "Things have changed since my day." I was taken aback at first and then said something along the lines that I enjoyed the help. I am so grateful for the joint parenting we now experience in "our day." I still value and feel there are male/female roles in life and to me in the home but the fact that both the husband and wife can nurture and take care of the children is so wonderful to me.I guess that will wrap up my post that started out about ballet...

Jake is watching History channel with Malachi and I am waiting for the girls (who took a late nap) to go to bed...leaving me with plenty of time to blog my thoughts.

  1. How in the world did you get a baby to eat a saltine after chocolate?! That's what I take from your post.

  2. You always sound so involved with everything! It's wonderful! And waiting to know your future living state is agonizing! It was the worst part about Brett applying for med school and then having to make a decision. Lots of luck to y'all!

  3. I think its funny when old people assume we should still do all the work. I think its spectacular how involved Daddys are now. It sends a much more positive message to the children I think. Good job Jake :)

  4. You sure handle things well!! I'm impressed. No stressing, freaking out, or being overwhelmed like some of us. Calm, cool, and cheerful!

  5. I enjoy the joint parenting in "our day" as well. I can't imagine dad's not changing diapers or helping w/whatever. It's how it should be, they are their kids too. Heck, my 3 oldest all change diapers too - good practice I think. Love your posts Caroline. I love the "ballet was ok" post too. I agree about letting them choose their activities, then they can also learn the responsibilty of sticking with their commitments. Your life sounds like mine these days.

20 Weeks

Today we had the opportunity to go in for our 20 week ultrasound. We are excited to announce that baby #3 is a healthy BOY! We are excited but have to admit we are a bit nervous. Change is hard and after two girls this is definitely a change. It will be a fun and wonderful experience. I have already thought about little boy ACUs and PT clothes (little army clothes) and what I will decorate the "boy" room in etc. I have always heard boys are "easier" but more rambunctious so I guess we will just have to see. I was excited that during the ultrasound our little boy was crossing his legs at the ankle like both his sisters do! So funny! We will keep y'all posted on names and other developments.

Halloween 2023

We pulled off our best Halloween!  Possibly ever!  Jake had a vision and it came true beautifully.  He even had the cutest song he sang.  I loved our last Halloween in our Hurst home.

sometimes life may get you down

but then you remember how wonderful you husband is and it makes it all ok. Jake surprised me by ordering these gorgeous handmade pearl earrings from TINY STORM for me for Christmas and they were waiting for us with all our mail when we arrived back home after vacation. He got down on one knee and presented me with these earrings and it brought tears to my eyes. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful, hardworking, and loving husband who is always there to take care of me and love me when I am having a rough time. Thank you Jacob!
