People here drink so much coke (coke can be Dr. Pepper, Sprite, etc). I think me and the girls have consumed our body weight in coke since arrived!
Drinks at fast food places are served in Styrofoam cups not paper. I think it is so they stay colder and do not sweat as much in the extreme heat/humidity. Not very "green" I know.
I don't remember sweating this much in high school. I told my mom today I think it is because I went to school at 7:30AM and just walked from the car to the building and then left at 3:30PM and walked from the building to the car and went to work (waitressing at Baytown Seafood) so I never really had a chance to sweat. Also, I was not loading 3-5 children into car seats by myself either back then.
We have a TON of bugs here. I will be investing in CASES of citronella candles when we move here for when we are in the yard. Also, I need to buy many cases of skin so soft to save us from the mosquitoes.
Every refrigerator has a gallon jug or huge pitcher of tea.
We eat TONS of GOOD FOOD and most of it is FRIED (not the healthiest I know).
I have family in just about every town surrounding me! Never a dull moment!
Church here is WONDERFUL! 4 wards in this small town.
How much I LOVE grass! Here there is a ton of it and plenty of trees!
Kids running around outside barefoot is totally the norm (my kids love it! and have the ant bites to prove it).
Just about everyone has a pet (or two or three).
Just about everyone I know lives outside the "city limits" so we can shoot off fireworks or shoot guns at targets in the backyard without a problem.

How friendly EVERYONE is.
How easily people tell you their life story or give you their opinion.
-I headed into Wal-Mart alone with my three kids when an old man walked beside me and commented on my beautiful family and then he asked me if I had a husband. I told him I did and he said he hoped my husband would always be around for my kids and I told him we planned on it. I just thought it was a funny question, "Do you have a husband?"

How you very rarely open your own door, someone always will hold it open for you or you for them.
FRESH SEAFOOD!
Just about everyone is respectful and uses their manners. Ma'am and Sir will always be heard.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE all things "Southern."
(I'm sure there are more things I want to make note of but this will work for now)

ReplyDeleteThe door opening sounds wonderful! I'm always a little sad when I'm walking up to a store or something with a baby carrier, a bag, and two little girls hanging onto my pant legs and someone walks in front of me just in time for the door to slam right in my face! We could use a little more manners up here :o)
ReplyDeleteI liked reading this! I LOVED TX when we went out there for my little brothers wedding.
