I have this personal goal for myself everyday for all three kids to nap at the same time, in the same room, that way I get some "me" time. I am successful 95% of the time, but today was one of the 5% of the time kinda days I don't enjoy so much. We had lunch with Jake and then I put the kids down. Malachi was first to fall asleep while Mali Su and Aimi Lark giggled away. Jake left for work. I went in and asked nicely for them to hush and go to sleep. Next, it was a bit sterner of a "go to sleep." I covered up Mali Su and she was out like a light the next time I checked.
I was well on my way.
2 down, 1 to go.
Well Aimi Lark got out of bed about 20 times in her plastic princess heels. She had MANY good reasons...
Reason 1: "I have to go potty" so I let her out, she goes pee, she gets back in bed.
Reason 2: "I needa drink" so I get her a drink of water, tuck her back in and she is quiet.
Reason 3: "I need to poop" so I let her out, but as her plastic, red, sparkly, Ariel shoes clank across the hardwood floor of the playroom both Mali Su and Malachi start to stir and whine. I rush Aimi Lark out and I'm so upset inside because I know what happens next, YEP, they are both crying now.
Aimi Lark apologizes (she always does that, how do I scold her when she has already apologized!?).
All three kids are up now.
Youngest two are cranky from a short nap, Aimi Lark is cranky from no nap, and I'm tired and bummed because I got no "me" time and I wanted a nap so badly today.
We all went outside.
And to think, the day started out so well.
We played play-doh,
(Mali Su is putting on her "make-up")
baked cookies,
made enchiladas for lunch/dinner,
and even ran around on the porch.
Now we are back inside and the kids are playing puzzles in their room. I hear bouts of whining and squealing. I can tell they are ALL cranky. Here's hoping for an early bedtime tonight.

I know exactly what you are talking about! We do the same thing everyday and on those days that they don't fall asleep I am a very cranky momma. Good luck and I hope they go to sleep early.
ReplyDeleteUh huh, uh huh....I feel ya. Not only do I hope you have an easy/early bedtime, but that the evening leading up to it isn't whiney and filled with tantrums. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI sympathize!! "ME" time is crucial or even the mama gets cranky!
