Our hospital room has wireless internet!

I cannot sleep (because the bed is uncomfortable and I am too hot) and the boys are asleep so I figured I'd give a little blog update.

Birth story in a nutshell:
I started having contractions around 2AM on May 19th and at about 5AM when Jake's alarms went off for work they were pretty regular and intense. Jake called in and took the rest of the week off work. He packed us a hospital bag of things we would need while I showered and got ready just in case. At 10AM we went and took my maternity picture, went to the doctor, back to the mall for lunch/walking/pick up picture. We then went home where the girls napped and I napped thanks to some intense contractions. After my nap the contractions had slowed so we went to Costco to walk around and pick up a few things. At about 5pm the contractions hadn't gotten necessarily closer together but they were rough and since I was 3cm dilated at my appt at 10AM and had been contracting all day I figured something had to have happened. So we headed to the hospital. I got there and got checked in and was bummed to find out I was only at about a 4. But at 4cm dilated they keep you. I kept contracting and breathing them out. My mother in law Lark was a great coach. My sister in law (and former BYU roommate) who just so happens to be a labor and delivery nurse came to be with us. It was so great to have a room full of so much knowledge and wisdom while I labored. I also was impressed with Jake during this birth. He was a champ! and Ashley commented that she had never heard a husband say so many times how beautiful his wife was. Thank you Jake for your loving support. Sometime after 7pm my contractions had slowed to about 8-9mins apart so they decided to give me a bit of pitocin. I had them give me some pain meds in my IV because pitocin is ROUGH without an epidural. I think the IV pain meds worked for the first contraction with pitocin and that was about it. My contractions picked up and did their job of getting me to 10cm. It was then time to push but the urge came on so quickly I began to panic. I was stuck (in pain) on my side not wanting to move but at the same time needed to push and laying on your side is not the best position for that. Jake came over and kindly moved me to my back and a couple contractions (and me yelling like crazy) later Malachi was out. He had his cord around his neck once and didn't cry at first but our great Dr. Jacob did an amazing job and Malachi was crying and breathing perfectly in no time. I apologized like crazy to everyone for yelling like a mad woman while I pushed. I never lost control with my girls like this so it was a whole different experience. I will say though that yelling for that little bit while I pushed was liberating and relieving in a way. Thanks again to all our loving family and friends who have been there for us!

Now for the fun part...some more pictures!!!

20 Weeks

Today we had the opportunity to go in for our 20 week ultrasound. We are excited to announce that baby #3 is a healthy BOY! We are excited but have to admit we are a bit nervous. Change is hard and after two girls this is definitely a change. It will be a fun and wonderful experience. I have already thought about little boy ACUs and PT clothes (little army clothes) and what I will decorate the "boy" room in etc. I have always heard boys are "easier" but more rambunctious so I guess we will just have to see. I was excited that during the ultrasound our little boy was crossing his legs at the ankle like both his sisters do! So funny! We will keep y'all posted on names and other developments.

Halloween 2023

We pulled off our best Halloween!  Possibly ever!  Jake had a vision and it came true beautifully.  He even had the cutest song he sang.  I loved our last Halloween in our Hurst home.

sometimes life may get you down

but then you remember how wonderful you husband is and it makes it all ok. Jake surprised me by ordering these gorgeous handmade pearl earrings from TINY STORM for me for Christmas and they were waiting for us with all our mail when we arrived back home after vacation. He got down on one knee and presented me with these earrings and it brought tears to my eyes. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful, hardworking, and loving husband who is always there to take care of me and love me when I am having a rough time. Thank you Jacob!
