Chinese Yo-Yo and Beijing (Peking) Duck

We hit up the Emperor's Park (you know the place with the bird's eye view of the Forbidden City) and came across even more people of Chinese retired age (55) dancing, exercising, and standing and bending at the hip.  They are like a bunch of kids playing in the park.
Jake got to work right away with his new friends and this new toy.
You have to keep it from getting twisted, keep it spinning, and I say try not to get dizzy and fall down.
They switched the yo yo they gave him for one of theirs and he had it, he was able to spin that thing no problem!  He had worked so hard at learning on a busted one that when he got a good one he was golden!
We went for a walk and had some frustrating disagreements.  We were hot, tired, and hungry and with no food in sight and no idea where we were tensions ran high.  (in China we had this problem with one day going perfectly, next day full of hiccups, and so on)  Just as we were about to fall over dead from exhaustion and hunger (ok that might be an exaggeration) we found a restaurant!
I had broccoli (I had been craving veggies) and Jake had the Peking/Beijing Duck.  I can normally eat anything once but this I could not even stomach.  I stuck to my big ol' plate of broccoli and my warm water (they bring you boiled water in a tea kettle since their water is not drinkable).
Afterward we stopped at a little grocery store where I got a cocoa cola and some pringle style bar b que chips to fill my stomoach.
Parking on the sidewalk is no joke here.
After a LONG subway ride to the summer palace we were out of water and I saw a McDonald's.  I sat down and had some fries with the coca cola I bought earlier and Jake went in search of bottled water.
A family offered for me to sit with them because all the tables were full and then I motioned that I wanted their ketchup since NONE of them were eating theirs and they only give you ONE packet per person.  I take it the Chinese haven't gained a United States size appreciation for ketchup yet.

Next is the Summer Palace!

20 Weeks

Today we had the opportunity to go in for our 20 week ultrasound. We are excited to announce that baby #3 is a healthy BOY! We are excited but have to admit we are a bit nervous. Change is hard and after two girls this is definitely a change. It will be a fun and wonderful experience. I have already thought about little boy ACUs and PT clothes (little army clothes) and what I will decorate the "boy" room in etc. I have always heard boys are "easier" but more rambunctious so I guess we will just have to see. I was excited that during the ultrasound our little boy was crossing his legs at the ankle like both his sisters do! So funny! We will keep y'all posted on names and other developments.

Halloween 2023

We pulled off our best Halloween!  Possibly ever!  Jake had a vision and it came true beautifully.  He even had the cutest song he sang.  I loved our last Halloween in our Hurst home.

sometimes life may get you down

but then you remember how wonderful you husband is and it makes it all ok. Jake surprised me by ordering these gorgeous handmade pearl earrings from TINY STORM for me for Christmas and they were waiting for us with all our mail when we arrived back home after vacation. He got down on one knee and presented me with these earrings and it brought tears to my eyes. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful, hardworking, and loving husband who is always there to take care of me and love me when I am having a rough time. Thank you Jacob!
