(WARNING: lots of sick baby info ahead)
(Mali Su napping on our bed today)
Has had a constant fever for 6 days now. I called the doctor after a couple days of fever and they told me to watch it, give her fever meds, and if she doesn't eat/have wet diaper to come in. Well she has been eating about half as much as normal but not slept and has been constantly whimpering. She has also been vomiting at times. This morning I became really worried by the fact that I have been giving her Tylenol/Motrin every 6 hrs or so for the past 6 days! I called and they told me to come in. When we got there the doctor checked her out and wanted to test for a UTI. (More info HERE.) It was a hard choice for us because it required a catheter to collect a "clean" urine sample. After Jake and I talked we felt it was best and the nurse and a NP came in and began. Mali Su did great for the first while but after they were unsuccessful and she got upset I had them stop. The were going to send us to the lab to have it done but the nurse came in and offered this bag that has sticky stuff on to stick on her to collect her urine. (The doctor didn't like this idea because the sample is not as reliable) As soon as I put it on her she went! Such a blessing! So the nurse took it and tested it and sure enough she has a urinary tract infection. POOR GIRL! I guess some kids just have more of a predisposition to get them. They will let us know in two days what the cultures say and for now she is on antibiotics. She is still acting miserable and running a fever but we hope that this is an answer and the problem will be solved ASAP.
On a happier note: Jake bought Mali Su a "Baby Einstein Jumper" at Costco last night and surprised her with it when he came home. She is still too sick to enjoy it but we can get her to crack a smile after her fever goes down (and before it comes back!)

poor baby girl..i hate it when they are sick..hope she gets to feeling well soon!
ReplyDeletecranberry is a very reliable natural cure and prevention for UTI. She may not like the taste but you can get it mixed with other juices as well. It actually has chemicals that prevent the UTI germs from sticking to the bladder, etc so they just flush out.
ReplyDeleteI hope she feels better soon!
That's the saddest thing I have ever heard.
ReplyDeleteAnd I was worried about Brigham getting violated because of the rectal thermometer. Hes never had that.
