Laboring with Leila Jin

I got the kids matching shirts.
We packed everyone's bags.
We headed to the hospital on the morning of the 14th.
The kids were so excited because 4+1=5 and Leila Jin is the 5th child in our family.
They were also insistent that they come and wait for her to be born.  They were so good and patient in the waiting room.  Jake would bring them in a couple at a time during labor to visit.
They started the pitocin (it gets the contractions going since I was induced) around noon.
I was a 1-2 all day.  Finally around 8 Jake asked Kaylene to come so the kids weren't in the waiting room all night long.  We assumed by the progress I had made that I was going to be awhile longer.
Jake took the kids outside to Kaylene around 8:30 and they checked me and I was a 3 and thinner (cervix).  I still didn't think that was enough progress to expect labor anytime soon.  I was having so much pain through my birth canal I asked for a bump in the epidural.  If you have the epidural you are going for a pain free birth and every other aspect of my body was spot on and pain free.  I still had not felt the pressure to push yet.  I am not sure how much later, but I had two strong feelings to push, asked Jake to look, and she was starting to show.  She was birthing herself.  My doctor told me not to push and I said I wasn't trying to push, but I wasn't going to not push either.  She hurried and put on gloves and Leila Jin was born smoothly (at 10:11pm) and without damage to me.  We were so worried since her head had been measuring so big for a long time.  We were so sad we had just sent the kids home an hour or so before, but know that it was the right thing.  My blood pressure kept shooting up and they had to give me magnesium after she was born.  It made for less worries without the kids in the waiting room with an extra complication after birth.  I am used to easy recoveries so this was new.  I am so grateful for my supportive children and husband who loved me through this whole birth.  They wanted this sweet spirit in our family more than I ever knew possible!  I am so impressed by their GIANT loving hearts!  I am so grateful Heavenly Father answered my two prayers I prayed so hard for during labor.  One for an easy labor and Two to know just how LJ would fit in our family.  I am so grateful!  We are truly truly blessed by this angel in our family!  We now have 5 joys!

20 Weeks

Today we had the opportunity to go in for our 20 week ultrasound. We are excited to announce that baby #3 is a healthy BOY! We are excited but have to admit we are a bit nervous. Change is hard and after two girls this is definitely a change. It will be a fun and wonderful experience. I have already thought about little boy ACUs and PT clothes (little army clothes) and what I will decorate the "boy" room in etc. I have always heard boys are "easier" but more rambunctious so I guess we will just have to see. I was excited that during the ultrasound our little boy was crossing his legs at the ankle like both his sisters do! So funny! We will keep y'all posted on names and other developments.

Halloween 2023

We pulled off our best Halloween!  Possibly ever!  Jake had a vision and it came true beautifully.  He even had the cutest song he sang.  I loved our last Halloween in our Hurst home.

sometimes life may get you down

but then you remember how wonderful you husband is and it makes it all ok. Jake surprised me by ordering these gorgeous handmade pearl earrings from TINY STORM for me for Christmas and they were waiting for us with all our mail when we arrived back home after vacation. He got down on one knee and presented me with these earrings and it brought tears to my eyes. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful, hardworking, and loving husband who is always there to take care of me and love me when I am having a rough time. Thank you Jacob!
