The National Guard sent out an email saying the SBA needed more attorneys to process loans since we had three major hurricanes and now wildfires on the west. It is insane. Jake originally thought the job would be for 90 days. The kids and I made plans to go up every weekend to visit while he was there. Well on our first weekend visit he found out the job will be more permanent than originally anticipated. Since we are homeless and with few belongings we decided to take the leap and move. Our home isn't inhabitable anytime soon, we own very few possessions thanks to Harvey, and we know I have a gypsy bone. The kids are up for the adventure and it helps that an amusement park is across the street from our hotel. We will call the hotel home for the foreseeable future since it is covered for us. Jake is an out-of-town hire so there are some "perks" that come along with that. We are excited, but this week in Vidor will be SO FULL of things to accomplish. I am up to the task, but still so nervous about it all. OH! can't forget to mention that my dear husband has had hands, feet, and legs that are "asleep" for awhile now. No doctor has been able to diagnose him. I am more than concerned and hope we find answers soon. So here's to new adventures and a mobile life.
Our porta-potty stop on the drive to Dallas.
The kids are pros when it comes to hotel life.
We tried to go on base for cheap tickets through MWR. No luck, but the kids loved walking these logs outside.
READY
SET
JUMP!
Hotel rooms equal cable TV and cable TV equals commercials.
Aimi Lark REALLY wanted a happy meal to get a My Little Pony Mask. She wore it all weekend.
See, told ya.
We will only be 5 hours from Vidor, so I know it will be an easy move and transition since we can still visit/check on our house.
DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth) has In N Out, Whataburger, and Shake Shack. I think we will be A-OK, oh and I have no doubt Costco will be happy to have me back.
I love to listen to them use their imaginations (when they aren't bickering over who has the best idea).
We have had the worst luck with in car entertainment over the years. I know now why people have it all professionally installed.
On the way back we took a better route and found a Buc-ee's, hallelujah, no porta-potty!
Now let's get this show on the road!
This is Laura, from Army ROTC (and then Air Force ROTC for last 6 years). I have loved reading your blog and so admire you for keeping at it. I am so grateful you are all OK after Harvey. Our daughter and husband and 3 kids live in Cypress, outside of Houston. I am in awe of your family - how resilient and optimistic you are! I've watched your children grow up in this blog.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I retired May 1st and am loving being a professional grandmother. :)
