Mali Su turns 8 (& some other things)

February 1st

We had lots of snow.  We went to bed on Sunday night the night before Mali Su's 8th birthday hoping they would call a snow day.  Then the next morning Mali Su came in my room and asked if everyone could skip school to spend the day with her for her birthday and as she is speaking the phone rings announcing, "SCHOOL'S CANCELLED!"
We loaded up and headed to Chick-Fil-A for breakfast per the birthday girl's request.  Daddy knows I love when he wears his overalls.  He is always multi-tasking with work emails and such, but he is so active in our lives and I love that about him.
On the drive back I found the hills covered in melting snow and green to be just gorgeous.  These hills are normally yellow/brown so the green makes my heart happy.  I love the rain and all things green.  Not to mention that gorgeous blue sky!
Mali Su asked for Falcon's Nest for late lunch/early supper so we went there too!  Falcon's Nest is a local burger place that my kids love because they can run around outside.  I cannot get enough of their grilled chicken cesar salads with feta cheese.  At Chick-Fil-A they gave her that cow and she was in love.  She remembered they gave me a cow and a balloon for my birthday back in Florida and she wanted one too for her birthday.
After we ate Mali Su asked to go sledding.  We rushed home to grab our gear and get back out to find a hill before the sun went down.  We tried to head up to Mount Pinos, but all the snow had the road shut down.  There were "snow bunnies" all around so we headed to a friend's house that Daddy knows from working out with his brother Isaac.  He even had some amazing sleds for us to use!
Daddy was a trooper and lugged babies and sleds up that hill over and over.
The fancier sleds are quite heavy!
I love Solomon's snow suit and think it's the best way to go!  If we are in a snow area next year and need new gear it will be one piece suits all around!
Mali Su was to get baptized the day after her birthday so Daddy finished up teaching her the lessons that he would have shared with investigators of our church when he was an official missionary for 2 years in Chile.  I also received these same lessons before I was baptized at the age of 16.  I love this tradition we have with our children so far of them receiving these lessons/missionary discussions before they are baptized.
One advantage to being back on "the Farm" is that family is around.  Daddy has been working out with his brothers when he can and I am so glad they get this time together.  It just makes me miss going to the gym.  The rural life is something I enjoy, but I do miss having a gym with childcare nearby.
The kids wore their Chinese gear to school before we left for our February trip.  On the way to school we stopped by a neighbor's house to wish them a happy new year in Chinese.
新年快乐 Xīnnián kuàilè
Then at school Daddy went to each of their classrooms and taught about Chinese New Year and showed them the Chinese yo-yo.  I love that we have been able to expose our children to other cultures and experiences.

I am for sure behind in blogging, but little by little I am trying to share even if I am out of order or miss some things.

I am so grateful for the record that is my blog.  I cherish the memories we have made as the Shillig 4 Family and love my job as the mother to document our journey in this life.

Love to you all who still read and keep up with what is going on in our neck of the woods.

20 Weeks

Today we had the opportunity to go in for our 20 week ultrasound. We are excited to announce that baby #3 is a healthy BOY! We are excited but have to admit we are a bit nervous. Change is hard and after two girls this is definitely a change. It will be a fun and wonderful experience. I have already thought about little boy ACUs and PT clothes (little army clothes) and what I will decorate the "boy" room in etc. I have always heard boys are "easier" but more rambunctious so I guess we will just have to see. I was excited that during the ultrasound our little boy was crossing his legs at the ankle like both his sisters do! So funny! We will keep y'all posted on names and other developments.

Halloween 2023

We pulled off our best Halloween!  Possibly ever!  Jake had a vision and it came true beautifully.  He even had the cutest song he sang.  I loved our last Halloween in our Hurst home.

sometimes life may get you down

but then you remember how wonderful you husband is and it makes it all ok. Jake surprised me by ordering these gorgeous handmade pearl earrings from TINY STORM for me for Christmas and they were waiting for us with all our mail when we arrived back home after vacation. He got down on one knee and presented me with these earrings and it brought tears to my eyes. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful, hardworking, and loving husband who is always there to take care of me and love me when I am having a rough time. Thank you Jacob!
