We got up and got ready to see some sights. Outside of Christina's house there are vineyards and windmills all around but behind me is a tower that is beautiful.
I love the way the roads wind through the villages.
Then in the distance from the autobahn (freeway) I see industry and it reminds me of home.
Home in South East TX.
We first toured Heidelberg Castle.
"Heidelberg Castle is a famous ruin in Germany and landmark of Heidelberg. The castle ruins are among the most important Renaissance structures north of the Alps."
Listed as opening in 1214 and having both Renaissance architecture and Gothic architecture.
Everywhere we went I wanted pictures of the local flags flying high. Maybe it was my inner Texan in me who loves to see flags flying gloriously.
This castle intrigued me. Part of the building was gorgeous and dainty while other parts were rough and rugged in construction.
I stepped out of the bathroom and saw my full body in winter gear and had to take a picture to show Jake and my Mom what I looked like in a German winter time.
My friend Christina was a great tour guide. She also did a great job as my European history teacher as well. I someone seemed to not retain an ounce of European history from High School, I know I took it AP though, how sad is that!?
The views were beautiful. It was such a clear day we could see for miles.
Inside was a GIGANTIC wine barrel you could walk up and over.
These rounded ceilings reminded me of the fort in St. Augustine, FL.
There were few small windows inside the wine area.
The street food was GREAT!
We moved on to the more damaged structures.
I liked seeing the different parts of the castle exterior.
This piece of a round wall seemed to just slide right off but you could tell how it would fit together all those years ago.
I had no idea what these plants were so I wanted to get a picture to find out, I still have no clue.
In Germany the traffic lights will go Red, Yellow, Green as well as Green, Yellow, Red. It gives you a yellow warning in both directions.
We saw the Martin Luther monument in Worms. He was tried in 1521 for heresy.
"Martin Luther bravely defended his written attacks on orthodox Catholic beliefs and denied the power of Rome to determine what is right and wrong in matters of faith. By holding steadfast to his interpretation of Scripture, Luther provided the impetus for the Reformation, a reform movement that would divide Europe into two regions, one Protestant and one Catholic, and that would set the scene for religious wars that would continue for more than a century, not ending until the Peace of Westphalia in 1648."
They do not often wash their bedding, they air it out so you will see bedding hanging out windows.
German salami is fantastic!
Christina is an amazing cook, one night we even made homemade noodles.
We had such a good day this day driving through so many beautiful areas and I feel like I learned so much.
