The entire house is ceramic tile. At first I loved this because that meant we wouldn't have to pay for rental carpet that would inevitably be stained with all our feet coming in and out of the rain that happens almost daily here (I love rain). BUT now that we've been here a bit I don't love it so much. Reason being it ECHOES and by the end of the day I have a headache from the kids' voices echoing all day. Who am I kidding, it is my voice that you can usually hear echoing as I bark commands.
The ceilings are all REALLY HIGH. At first it was so nice and made the house seem SO SPACIOUS but now I realize that it probably doesn't help with the A/C due to heat rising and all and also contributes to the before mentioned echo problem.
We have microscopic ants. It looks like specks of dirt that move. They call them sugar ants but I remember sugar ants in TX being a bit bigger and looking like ants, not specks of moving microscopic dirt. When it rains they come in and since it rains often I find myself just wiping them up.
Having an ice maker is really fun. I forgot though how much drinks here made with ice sweat!
Our shower in our master bath is separate from the garden tub and HUGE. It is the nicest shower we think we've ever taken.
We got a bed frame for our bed, one size fits all $50 at COSTCO. First time in 6+ years we haven't slept on a mattress and box springs on the floor.
Jake sweeps the entire house daily. I love it. The first few days moving in my feet were black on the bottom from the dust and such but now he keeps them nice and tidy.
We have an ORANGE tree in our backyard. It has SO MANY ORANGES on it. They are green but look like they'll turn soon.
The pantry in the kitchen is a great size. We have yet to buy very many groceries so it isn't full yet but I can already see its potential.
Did I mention Jake and I have a huge walk in closet? It looks great so far, we just need to buy more hangers. And to think when we moved I was fussing that we had SO MANY HANGERS. It seems like too many when they are empty and all over the place.
I keep the A/C on about 80 during the day and then 68 at night. I can suffer during the day but at night I want to not wake up sweating. I am so scared of our electricity bill. We've never lived in a "house" before.
I didn't think I'd say this but I miss TV. At our condo a very nice cable package was included in the HOA fees. It doesn't help that my DVD player on my desktop only works about a 1/4 of the time so even watching my FRIENDS DVDs is out of the question. During nap time I like to eat my lunch and enjoy a little TV. For now there is only a TV in the boys' room along with their XBOX.
I have this nifty little built in desk area in the kitchen/dining area. Jake said it would be my favorite part. I really do love it.
Well Jake got out of class three minutes ago and it takes him about 30 minutes to drive the 13 miles home. I'm thinking I better go finish up our room getting all organized and unpacked, shhh it's a surprise.

Sounds like fun adjustments. I'm so sorry about the echo! It would drive me insane!!! One suggestion for the nighttime a/c--personal fans! Seriously, we have one for almost every person that blows directly on them during the night. It really makes a huge difference so we can run the a/c less. The savings pays for a fan in just 1 month. lol Have fun!!
ReplyDeleteHey for the echo, is it because y'all haven't really moved in yet? Once you get furniture, some area rugs, etc, it should really cut down on the echoing. My brother's house had the same problem (vaulted ceilings, etc) and once the furniture was in, it helped out a lot.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember if you mentioned this or not but is this the house you're renting? If so, then ask your landlord about putting in ceiling fans. At my house in Miami, we had ceiling fans in all bedrooms and living room. It really does help out a lot. At night, we even slept with our fan and AC on. I wouldn't even dream about doing that now but it was "normal" back then. :)
Enjoy the tile floors! I miss em. Easier to clean. With the ants, get some spray and leave it around the corners or edges where they might be coming from. Or even on the outside. That might help a little. Anyhow, good luck!
Sounds fun! Yeah for the big tub while you are pregnant especially! My favorite thing to do. You should get a shark steam cleaner for your floors. Makes cleaning them fast and easy without the chemicals or the long time to dry! Sure love mine. And awesome about the desk. I have a perfect spot for one in my kitchen but it would be the effort of putting one in that holds us back!!!
ReplyDeleteOOOh, just think of the cool area rugs you could get! :) Thanks for your comments on my blog. And, glad Brody got his merit badges.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed all your observations and how many of them were similar to my own when we first moved here from California.
ReplyDeletePS Look for the oranges to be ready in December.
