great grandma amy lee sellers

as if I don't write enough on here already... I wanted to start posting some "memories" as they popped into my head and tonight after talking to my mom I started to remember memories of my Grandma Sellers...

~As a girl I would love to go stay at her house and because she liked to "collect" things we always had to clear off a spot on the couch for me to sleep.
~I loved that she always made me hot chocolate in the mornings before we went to the flea market where she had a booth. I would swish the hot chocolate around in my mouth and then breath in the cold morning air and it always made my teeth feel so strange.
~She would never bargain on anything in her shop. Sometimes I wished she would so that we would make some sales but she always stood her ground.
~She had Aloe Vera plants on her front porch and somehow I learned that you could break off the tips and squeeze out the gel and so I did that quite often and she would get so mad at me because then the plant looked pitiful because all the tips were gone and all that was left were brown dried up edges of the plant.
~My cousin April and I would sometimes ride the bus to her house after school and I was always so scared of the the chow dogs that lived at her neighbor's house (the browns were their name I think)
~Her cat squeaky lost its tail in a fight and it was the scariest thing I had ever seen until she had the tail amputated.
~She loved to go to the riverboat casinos in Louisiana and play the penny slots because it made her money last longer...and she loved for either me or my mom to roll and set her hair. She kept her rollers in a jug that she had cut the top off of and then crocheted this mesh top on it.
~Every year for Christmas she would crochet a small stocking for every kid in my class and put a candy cane in it...very ornate! until one year her hands were too tired and she gave me big candy canes to give out instead.
~The first time I cut my hair was in her yard while hiding behind the air conditioning unit.
~Whenever I got bit by ants I would always sit in her lap and she would sterilize a needle and pop the ant bites...so being the "special" kid I was I one time put my foot in an ant pile so that she would pop the bites later.
~She had a massive collection of 8 track tapes and I always wanted her to play them but she never did.
~I loved that she always gave us AVON bubble bath! It was my favorite!
~She taught me how to crochet a single straight stitch.
~I would always go and get "commodities" with her and the peanut butter was always my favorite part!
~When I would sleep in the back big bed with her I would always try to match my breathing with hers and it would keep me up for hours! Also she called it a "pillar" case and not a pillowcase or pillar vs pillow.
~When we would get ready for bed I remember being intrigued by the tattoo she had on her upper left arm with her husbands/my great grandfathers name. It was like nothing I had ever seen before.
~My favorite piece of jewelry of hers was a key/lock ring that wrapped around her finger. It was simple and from AVON I think and I got it when she died but I remember that I accidentally stepped on it as a girl and bent it and then somehow among our many moves it got lost.
~I remember I always asked her to show me where she grew up and she would drive me around Rose City and show me the house she lived in and tell me about how she ironed to make money. She ironed peoples SHEETS!

Well Jake just got home so I better stop... I'll add more as I think of them :) I loved my Grandma Sellers SO SO MUCH!

  5. Oh, Caroline! I'm so glad you posted about Grandma Sellers! I was just talking to Brandon about her the other day, too. I was telling him about how we went to visit her booth and she gave me a pendant that I still have and when we moved to Central Texas, I wrote her a letter and she wrote me back (which I still have...I kept almost everything she gave me). She came to visit us and brought me a kitten, but he was weened too soon and died. She taught me to collect things. I loved horses, so she would always send me little horse figurines. She tried to get Daddy to collect mallards, for some reason. He had figurines of them that she had given him all over the house. You are so blessed that you lived close enough to see her often. I wish I had had more one on one time with her. Write all your memories down so you can share them with your girls someday!
    Love ya!

  6. Forgot to mention that she made each of us an afghan when we were born. When Rachel was born, she happened to surprise us with a visit with your Grandma (my Aunt Caroline). They went straight to the hospital when they found out what was going on. She had come to bring the afghan. We were able to take pictures of her holding Rachel and it was exactly two weeks later that she passed away. I have always thought that she followed a prompting to come visit us that day, not knowing that would be her only chance to see her youngest grandchild.

  8. Wow, you remembered a lot of stuff. I didn't realize you had spent that much time with her.I don't remember much about her as a person, I just remember a shirt she made me. I feel kind of sad that I've never had a close relationship with any of my grandparents, let alone great grandparents. Be glad you have those memories.

20 Weeks

Today we had the opportunity to go in for our 20 week ultrasound. We are excited to announce that baby #3 is a healthy BOY! We are excited but have to admit we are a bit nervous. Change is hard and after two girls this is definitely a change. It will be a fun and wonderful experience. I have already thought about little boy ACUs and PT clothes (little army clothes) and what I will decorate the "boy" room in etc. I have always heard boys are "easier" but more rambunctious so I guess we will just have to see. I was excited that during the ultrasound our little boy was crossing his legs at the ankle like both his sisters do! So funny! We will keep y'all posted on names and other developments.

Halloween 2023

We pulled off our best Halloween!  Possibly ever!  Jake had a vision and it came true beautifully.  He even had the cutest song he sang.  I loved our last Halloween in our Hurst home.

sometimes life may get you down

but then you remember how wonderful you husband is and it makes it all ok. Jake surprised me by ordering these gorgeous handmade pearl earrings from TINY STORM for me for Christmas and they were waiting for us with all our mail when we arrived back home after vacation. He got down on one knee and presented me with these earrings and it brought tears to my eyes. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful, hardworking, and loving husband who is always there to take care of me and love me when I am having a rough time. Thank you Jacob!
